Full-Day / Private Access Shelter Island, New York
Full-Day / Guided Photo Adventures Greenport, New York (optional)
November 6th & optional add-on day November 7th, 2022
Spectacular setting for landscape, birding, wildlife, fall foliage & more.
Capture the scene with confidence and creativity. This is a workshop that focuses on honing photography skills specific to landscapes and the natural wonders of the great outdoors in a truly unique, natural setting at a magical time of year.
Learn the techniques that will turn your landscape images into works of art, such as using light to capture emotion, a composition that connects with viewers, using camera techniques, and lens filters for optimal image impact, and more.
Edged by 12 miles of coastline, Mashomack Preserve on Shelter Island is considered one of the richest habitats in the Northeast. The preserve covers a third of Shelter Island with 2,039 acres of interlacing tidal creeks, mature oak woodlands, fields, and freshwater marshes. It is often referred to as the “Jewel of the Peconic” and we have been granted private access to shoot in restricted areas that are the most scenic within the preserve.
We’ll meet at the Mashomack Visitor’s Center at 10:00 am and take some time to shoot here before carpooling along a four-mile private dirt road to make our way to the historic Manor House and Ordway Wildlife Refuge – our primary shooting locations for the day.
This workshop will be led by Joanne Henig & Tony Graziano, nature photographers and educators. Joanne and Tony look forward to exploring this exciting adventure with you.
In-field photography sessions with time devoted to discussion and instruction regarding lighting, composition, long exposure, and nature photography techniques as well as evaluation and recommendations for improvement. We scout our locations each year prior to every workshop to ensure our photo locations are successful, without unexpected closures, debris, etc. We have experience photographing in this location, and we pride ourselves on getting you to the right spot at the right time. ALL for $110.
Full-day photography workshop, host lunch, and donation to the Shelter Island Nature Conservancy. ALL for $110. We recommend that you bring your own water and snacks for the in-field shooting portions of the day.
Greenport (optional add-on day)
After a full day on Shelter Island, travel back to Greenport with your workshop leaders, check in to your hotel of choice, grab a bite to eat, and prepare for the second day of shooting in and around Greenport. Greenport is known for its famous 1920s carousel, quaint restaurants, close proximity to Orient Point County Park, Inlet Pond County Park, and more than 40 vineyards. It is home to the East End Seaport Museum & Marine Foundation and the Railroad Museum of Long Island.
Transportation, non-host meals, hotel accommodations. We will rideshare after we meet at the Mashomack Visitor’s Center and as much as possible on our second day. Wish we could, but we cannot guarantee good weather. If needed, rain dates will be November 7th & 8th.
