The Grand Canyon of the East
Letchworth State Park, New York
October 18th – October 24th, 2023
$1,350.00
Instructors: Joanne Henig and Jessica Lempin
Letchworth State Park, renowned as the “Grand Canyon of the East,” is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs–as high as 600 feet in some places–surrounded by lush forests.
USA TODAY Readers’ Choice Award for Best State Park in the United States
In 2015, Letchworth won the USA TODAY Readers’ Choice Award for Best State Park in the United States! Letchworth came out on top of the 19 other state parks nominated for the contest, chosen from more than 6,000 parks across the nation. We will select from some of the best shooting locations in the area such as Upper Falls | Middle Falls | Genesee River Gorge | Portage High Bridge | Lower Falls | Inspiration Point | Wolf Creek | Hemlock Trail | Pine Pond |
This workshop will be led by Joanne Henig and Jessica Lempin, nature photographers and educators. Joanne and Tony look forward to exploring this exciting adventure with you.

INCLUDED: In-field DSLR photography skill sessions with hands-on instruction, artistic composition direction, group class sessions on processing, and image critiques. Multi-day guided photography workshop with a pre-selected location for our host dinner. We recommend that you bring your own water and snacks for your room and for in-field shooting.
For every Photo Art Pavilion workshop, we scout our locations prior to every session to ensure that our photo workshops are successful and without debris or unexpected closures. We begin early each day, chase the light to get you to the best location under optimum conditions. Instructors JOANNE HENIG and JESSICA LEMPIN are professional photographers and educators dedicated to your learning, fun, and adventure.
NOT INCLUDED: Airfare, transportation, lodging, and non-host meals. Carpool with ride sharing is used to get to photography locations. While meals are not included in the workshop fee, we do like to dine as a group. This way, we can talk about the day, address any questions, and have some fun together!
FITNESS LEVEL: MODERATE
You must be able to carry your own equipment to participate. Trails are considered easy, moderate, and difficult.
In-field photography sessions offer time devoted to discussion and instruction regarding lighting, composition, long exposure, and nature photography techniques as well as evaluation and recommendations for improvement. We have experience photographing in this location, and we pride ourselves on getting you to the right spot at the right time.
