Summertime Reflections

Summertime Reflections

Unofficially, the season of summer has ended. Magically, life suddenly flips like a light switch beginning with Labor Day and continuing throughout September. Shorter days and cooler nights replace an ice-cold lemonade and dancing under the stars. I can almost smell the pumpkin spice in my coffee and the fragrance of my fireplace as it warms my toes.

Too soon? Yeah, your right! The heck with that! Instead, let’s enjoy some of my favorite images from the Summer of 2022 together.

Dockside (Long Island, NY) – a cool, coastal abstract

Timberpoint No. 5 (Long Island, NY) – A view of Timberpoint Country Club’s Hole #5 from the water.

Come Sit With Me (Long Island, NY) – Seating in a peaceful garden respite.

Egg Rock Lighthouse (Maine, USA) – A stone dwelling built from granite in Bar Harbor.

Enjoy the final weeks of this epic summer.

Feel free to contact me about recent additions to my art collections or something you’ve seen in the past.

Artfully yours,

Joanne Henig

Exhibit Opening: JHenigPhoto.art on display.

I am pleased to announce a mixed-media exhibit on Long Island where I currently live and am displaying one of my favorite art pieces, Woodland Cathedral.

Woodland Cathedral is part of the Happy Little Trees presentation at the Islip Arts Council’s gallery in the Westfield Mall in Bay Shore (Next to Dick’s Sporting Goods) and presented by Long Island Photo Gallery.  The exhibit runs from MAY 6 – JUNE 25, 2022 with an artist reception on Friday, June 17th, 2022 from 5 pm – 7 pm.

The art piece on display within the gallery is a 20″ x 30″ HD Ultra-Thin Aluminum Metal Print with astonishing brilliance. HD Metal Prints are extremely robust, but light in weight, even in large formats. Pictures printed on aluminum are water-resistant and even suited for sheltered outdoor areas.

Exhibit Details

HAPPY LITTLE TREES
Presented by LONG ISLAND PHOTO GALLERY

The exhibit includes both photography and mixed media, evoking the spirit of artist Bob Ross, who encouraged millions of people to explore their personal creativity. “Happy Little Trees” were the foundation of many of his artistic works. In this exhibit, the displaying artists point their creative focus to trees in all their many forms, whether they be happy or sad trees, big or small trees, trees standing quietly alone against a landscape, or trees as part of a mighty forest.

ON DISPLAY FROM MAY 6 – JUNE 25, 2022

ARTIST RECEPTION

FRIDAY, JUNE 17TH 2022

5 PM – 7 PM

Why Do We Love Waterfalls?

Large or small, waterfalls tend to ignite our senses.

The sight of water cascading is a wonder for the eyes to see. They are beautiful and powerful and difficult to turn our gaze away from them.

The fragrance coming from a waterfall is fresh, clean, and vibrant. The smell feels cleansing and pure.

The feel of a waterfall is often cooler that where you stand. The water usually has a lower temperature than the land you stand on while you observe the scene. It’s a refreshing feel.

The sound of a waterfall is amazing. The thunderous pounding of water against the rocks below can actually make us feel cheerful. If you sit beside a waterfall for a little while you’ll notice that the sound is actually pleasant and evokes feelings of peace and calm. All that power flowing brings forth calm. It’s odd, but it’s true.

If you combine the sight, the smell, the feel, and the sound of a waterfall, you can’t help but put on a smile.

I love to photograph waterfalls because I love the sheer awe of them and the feeling I get being near them.  I enjoy using my photographic skills to create art from waterfalls so that I can transport the feeling of the waterfall from me to you.

Please enjoy some of my favorite images of waterfalls by using the links below. And keep coming back to my online gallery as I add new art pieces on a regular basis.

Mixed Media Merges Photography With Technology

Mixed Media Merges Photography With Technology

Usually, on rare occasions, I like to merge my photography with digital filters in Photoshop to create a unique art piece that resembles a painting or a hand-crafted sketch.

The pieces are built, layer by layer, from original images, shot with my 35mm DSLR. I advance the underlying image (raw) file beyond anything my DSLR can initially offer me. The application of any chosen technique is unique and difficult for me to duplicate, often creating a one-of-a-kind art piece.

I try not to stray too far away from my personal development as a fine art nature photographer. I do, however, sometimes enjoy diving deep into a raw image file and allowing for my creativity to merge the two worlds of photography with technology together. The resulting art can really surprise me and are some of the best-selling art pieces in my portfolio.

Nature Is Always The Answer

Nature is always the answer!

Are you a nature lover like me?

For instance, when I need a moment of respite — away from my job, my phone, and the chaos of everyday life — getting outside is pure medicine for me. When I spend time outdoors immersed in nature, my spirit feels replenished and strengthened.

I enjoy listening to the sound of waves crashing on a beach and hiking mountain trails with scenic views, where the sounds of the Earth crunching beneath my feet energize me instantly.

Spending time amid nature can invigorate my mood and help me breathe a little easier. I can find solace any time of the year. I just need to do a little planning and get out from behind my desk.

We all still have a deep connection with nature, and research shows that if we don’t nourish that bond despite our technological advancements, we may suffer in other ways. If you’re able to, get back to nature to energize your mind and body. If you need a friend to tag along with you, consider reaching out to me. I’d be happy to share some photography tips with you along the way!I hope you have a great day and that it includes a little bit of the great outdoors!

Distant Guardian

It’s no secret that lighthouses have been guarding the coasts around the world for centuries. Photographers, like myself, often gravitate to them. The imagery of lighthouses makes for great art subjects.

Pictured in this post is one of my favorite images of the Montauk Point Lighthouse, titled ‘Distant Guardian‘. The lighthouse at Montauk Point, the easternmost point of Long Island’s south fork, stands guard along the Atlantic Ocean coastline. The Montauk Historical Society declares that the lighthouse is world-famous!

The Montauk Point Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in New York State. This National Historic Landmark has been part of Long Island’s land and seascape for over 200 years and still serves as an active aid to navigation.

A custom-framed print of this iconic landmark could easily complete any room. Need something different? Request a direct quote to budget your art by emailing jhenig@photoartpavilion.com

I’ll help you transform your space.

Tree Tops Abstract

A simple walkabout in Long Island’s Prosser Pines Nature Preserve brought me so much peace and serenity. It is quite unavoidable to step softly because the carpet of pine needles beneath my hiking shoes demand it.

As I observed the near silence of my trek, I gazed up at the tops of the mighty pine trees. They gently swayed back and forth and at the same time, a delightful wafting of the scent of the pine forest brought a smile to my face.

I love trees and hiking among them. Throughout the nearly 2 years of restrictions of Covid, I found more and more peace and serenity walking among the trees.

The image that is hanging over the tub is titled Tree Tops Abstract.

If you are into natural abstract art, please take a moment to view my other abstract pieces here, in my Photo Art Pavilion storefront.

Thanks,

From Concept To Your Walls

The deep darks and the eye-catching whites are what make black and white artwork so magical.  And when black and white is combined with minimalist photography the aesthetics can be some of the most calming imagery for your walls.

Oftentimes, I think we take for granted the beauty that surrounds us every day. This particular fine art image, ‘Above Water I’ was ultimately converted to black and white to create drama and interest. It was photographed over the lowlands near Charleston, South Carolina.

My ‘Above Water I & II’ series provides the viewer with a feeling of tranquility.  I’ve isolated elements poking out from the water with the use of natural light.  The reflections and shadows of the elements above the water onto the water below create a calm of which the viewer can draw their own interpretation of the scene.

View these as well as my other black and white pieces here, in my Photo Art Pavilion storefront.

Thanks,

Joanne Henig
