Introducing "Fine Art Photography Inspirations: Eternal Tides"

Dive into the mesmerizing world of my latest series, “Eternal Tides,” where the boundless beauty of the sea meets the captivating allure of fine art photography.  Inspired by a stunning art piece gracing the walls of a dear friend’s home, and fueled by the endless inspiration of recent travels surrounded by the rhythmic embrace of the ocean, I embarked on a journey of exploration and creation like no other.

With each wave that crashed upon the shore, I found myself drawn deeper into the enchanting dance of light and shadow, texture and movement.  Armed with my camera as my faithful companion, I immersed myself in the study of the sea, capturing its ever-changing moods and moments of fleeting beauty with every click of the shutter.

From the gentle caress of dawn’s first light upon the horizon to the fiery hues of sunset painting the sky in a kaleidoscope of colors, each photograph in “Eternal Tides” is a testament to the timeless elegance and infinite wonder of the ocean.

Join me on this artistic odyssey as we journey together through the ebb and flow of the tides, discovering the magic and majesty that lies beneath the surface of the sea. Experience the beauty. Feel the inspiration. Let the eternal tides wash over you.

A Majestic October Adventure: Exploring Yellowstone National Park and Grand Tetons

A Majestic October Adventure: Exploring Yellowstone National Park and Grand Tetons

As the vibrant hues of autumn painted the landscapes in breathtaking shades of red, orange, and gold, my recent trip to Yellowstone National Park and Grand Tetons National Park this past October was nothing short of a spectacular adventure. From the abundant wildlife and mesmerizing hydrothermal basins of Yellowstone to the rugged beauty of the Grand Tetons and the artistic inspiration found in the footsteps of Ansel Adams, every moment was a celebration of the untamed wonders of nature.

Yellowstone’s Wildlife Extravaganza: A Symphony of Nature

Yellowstone National Park, often referred to as the Serengeti of North America, did not disappoint in showcasing its diverse and abundant wildlife. As I explored the park’s vast expanse, I was treated to a wildlife extravaganza that included encounters with iconic species such as bison, elk, and the elusive gray wolves. The park’s resident grizzly bears made a rare appearance, leaving me in awe of their majestic presence against the backdrop of fall foliage.

One of the highlights of my trip was witnessing the mesmerizing courtship displays of the elk during their rutting season. The echoing bugles of the bull elks reverberated through the crisp autumn air, creating a symphony that seemed to blend seamlessly with the rustling leaves beneath my feet. It was a wildlife spectacle that reinforced Yellowstone’s reputation as a haven for nature enthusiasts and wildlife photographers alike.

Yellowstone’s Hydrothermal Basins: A Dance of Steam and Color

Yellowstone is renowned for its hydrothermal features, and no visit is complete without exploring the bubbling geysers, vibrant hot springs, and dramatic fumaroles that dot the landscape. As I walked along the boardwalks of the Upper Geyser Basin, home to the world-famous Old Faithful, I marveled at the intricate patterns formed by the silica-rich waters as they cascaded down terraces.

The Grand Prismatic Spring, with its kaleidoscope of colors ranging from deep blue to fiery orange, was a true marvel. The steam rising from the thermal features added an ethereal quality to the surroundings, creating an otherworldly atmosphere. Yellowstone’s hydrothermal basins are a testament to the geothermal forces that shape our planet, offering a glimpse into the Earth’s fiery and dynamic core.

Grand Tetons: Nature’s Rugged Masterpiece

Leaving the geothermal wonders of Yellowstone behind, I ventured into the rugged embrace of the Grand Tetons. The jagged peaks of the Teton Range pierced the sky, their snow-capped summits creating a stunning contrast against the autumn foliage below. The Snake River meandered through the valley, reflecting the majestic peaks in its crystal-clear waters.

Hiking along the trails, I was immersed in the untamed beauty of the Grand Tetons. Towering granite cliffs, alpine meadows, and serene lakes provided a backdrop that seemed straight out of a wilderness painting. The sheer grandeur of the landscape left me humbled and inspired, reminding me of the raw power and timeless beauty of the natural world.

Walking in the Footsteps of Ansel Adams: Capturing Nature’s Essence

As an avid photography enthusiast, no visit to the Grand Tetons would be complete without paying homage to the legendary Ansel Adams, whose iconic black-and-white images of the American West have left an indelible mark on the world of landscape photography. I retraced some of Adams’ footsteps, seeking out the vantage points from which he captured his timeless masterpieces.

As I set up my camera and tripod, I couldn’t help but feel a profound connection to the landscape that had inspired Adams decades ago. The interplay of light and shadow on the rugged peaks, the reflection of the mountains in the still waters of the lakes—each frame seemed to echo the spirit of Adams’ work. Walking in his footsteps, I aimed to capture the essence of the Grand Tetons in my own photographic journey, a humble homage to the master of landscape photography.

My October adventure in Yellowstone National Park and Grand Tetons National Park was a journey into the heart of nature’s wonders. From the abundant wildlife and dynamic hydrothermal basins of Yellowstone to the rugged beauty of the Grand Tetons and the artistic legacy of Ansel Adams, every moment was a testament to the enduring magic of the American wilderness. As I left these national treasures behind, I carried with me not only memories of breathtaking landscapes but also a renewed appreciation for the untamed beauty that defines our planet.

Summertime Reflections

Summertime Reflections

Unofficially, the season of summer has ended. Magically, life suddenly flips like a light switch beginning with Labor Day and continuing throughout September. Shorter days and cooler nights replace an ice-cold lemonade and dancing under the stars. I can almost smell the pumpkin spice in my coffee and the fragrance of my fireplace as it warms my toes.

Too soon? Yeah, your right! The heck with that! Instead, let’s enjoy some of my favorite images from the Summer of 2022 together.

Dockside (Long Island, NY) – a cool, coastal abstract

Timberpoint No. 5 (Long Island, NY) – A view of Timberpoint Country Club’s Hole #5 from the water.

Come Sit With Me (Long Island, NY) – Seating in a peaceful garden respite.

Egg Rock Lighthouse (Maine, USA) – A stone dwelling built from granite in Bar Harbor.

Enjoy the final weeks of this epic summer.

Feel free to contact me about recent additions to my art collections or something you’ve seen in the past.

Artfully yours,

Exhibit Opening: JHenigPhoto.art on display.

I am pleased to announce a mixed-media exhibit on Long Island where I currently live and am displaying one of my favorite art pieces, Woodland Cathedral.

Woodland Cathedral is part of the Happy Little Trees presentation at the Islip Arts Council’s gallery in the Westfield Mall in Bay Shore (Next to Dick’s Sporting Goods) and presented by Long Island Photo Gallery.  The exhibit runs from MAY 6 – JUNE 25, 2022 with an artist reception on Friday, June 17th, 2022 from 5 pm – 7 pm.

The art piece on display within the gallery is a 20″ x 30″ HD Ultra-Thin Aluminum Metal Print with astonishing brilliance. HD Metal Prints are extremely robust, but light in weight, even in large formats. Pictures printed on aluminum are water-resistant and even suited for sheltered outdoor areas.

Exhibit Details

HAPPY LITTLE TREES

Why Do We Love Waterfalls?

Large or small, waterfalls tend to ignite our senses.

The sight of water cascading is a wonder for the eyes to see. They are beautiful and powerful and difficult to turn our gaze away from them.

The fragrance coming from a waterfall is fresh, clean, and vibrant. The smell feels cleansing and pure.

The feel of a waterfall is often cooler that where you stand. The water usually has a lower temperature than the land you stand on while you observe the scene. It’s a refreshing feel.

The sound of a waterfall is amazing. The thunderous pounding of water against the rocks below can actually make us feel cheerful. If you sit beside a waterfall for a little while you’ll notice that the sound is actually pleasant and evokes feelings of peace and calm. All that power flowing brings forth calm. It’s odd, but it’s true.

If you combine the sight, the smell, the feel, and the sound of a waterfall, you can’t help but put on a smile.

I love to photograph waterfalls because I love the sheer awe of them and the feeling I get being near them.  I enjoy using my photographic skills to create art from waterfalls so that I can transport the feeling of the waterfall from me to you.

Please enjoy some of my favorite images of waterfalls by using the links below. And keep coming back to my online gallery as I add new art pieces on a regular basis.

Mixed Media Merges Photography With Technology

Mixed Media Merges Photography With Technology

Usually, on rare occasions, I like to merge my photography with digital filters in Photoshop to create a unique art piece that resembles a painting or a hand-crafted sketch.

The pieces are built, layer by layer, from original images, shot with my 35mm DSLR. I advance the underlying image (raw) file beyond anything my DSLR can initially offer me. The application of any chosen technique is unique and difficult for me to duplicate, often creating a one-of-a-kind art piece.

I try not to stray too far away from my personal development as a fine art nature photographer. I do, however, sometimes enjoy diving deep into a raw image file and allowing for my creativity to merge the two worlds of photography with technology together. The resulting art can really surprise me and are some of the best-selling art pieces in my portfolio.

Nature Is Always The Answer

Nature is always the answer!

Are you a nature lover like me?

For instance, when I need a moment of respite — away from my job, my phone, and the chaos of everyday life — getting outside is pure medicine for me. When I spend time outdoors immersed in nature, my spirit feels replenished and strengthened.

I enjoy listening to the sound of waves crashing on a beach and hiking mountain trails with scenic views, where the sounds of the Earth crunching beneath my feet energize me instantly.

Spending time amid nature can invigorate my mood and help me breathe a little easier. I can find solace any time of the year. I just need to do a little planning and get out from behind my desk.

We all still have a deep connection with nature, and research shows that if we don’t nourish that bond despite our technological advancements, we may suffer in other ways. If you’re able to, get back to nature to energize your mind and body. If you need a friend to tag along with you, consider reaching out to me. I’d be happy to share some photography tips with you along the way!I hope you have a great day and that it includes a little bit of the great outdoors!

Distant Guardian

It’s no secret that lighthouses have been guarding the coasts around the world for centuries. Photographers, like myself, often gravitate to them. The imagery of lighthouses makes for great art subjects.

Pictured in this post is one of my favorite images of the Montauk Point Lighthouse, titled ‘Distant Guardian‘. The lighthouse at Montauk Point, the easternmost point of Long Island’s south fork, stands guard along the Atlantic Ocean coastline. The Montauk Historical Society declares that the lighthouse is world-famous!

The Montauk Point Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in New York State. This National Historic Landmark has been part of Long Island’s land and seascape for over 200 years and still serves as an active aid to navigation.

A custom-framed print of this iconic landmark could easily complete any room. Need something different? Request a direct quote to budget your art by emailing jhenig@photoartpavilion.com

I’ll help you transform your space.

Tree Tops Abstract

A simple walkabout in Long Island’s Prosser Pines Nature Preserve brought me so much peace and serenity. It is quite unavoidable to step softly because the carpet of pine needles beneath my hiking shoes demand it.

As I observed the near silence of my trek, I gazed up at the tops of the mighty pine trees. They gently swayed back and forth and at the same time, a delightful wafting of the scent of the pine forest brought a smile to my face.

I love trees and hiking among them. Throughout the nearly 2 years of restrictions of Covid, I found more and more peace and serenity walking among the trees.

The image that is hanging over the tub is titled Tree Tops Abstract.

If you are into natural abstract art, please take a moment to view my other abstract pieces here, in my Photo Art Pavilion storefront.

From Concept To Your Walls

The deep darks and the eye-catching whites are what make black and white artwork so magical.  And when black and white is combined with minimalist photography the aesthetics can be some of the most calming imagery for your walls.

Oftentimes, I think we take for granted the beauty that surrounds us every day. This particular fine art image, ‘Above Water I’ was ultimately converted to black and white to create drama and interest. It was photographed over the lowlands near Charleston, South Carolina.

My ‘Above Water I & II’ series provides the viewer with a feeling of tranquility.  I’ve isolated elements poking out from the water with the use of natural light.  The reflections and shadows of the elements above the water onto the water below create a calm of which the viewer can draw their own interpretation of the scene.

View these as well as my other black and white pieces here, in my Photo Art Pavilion storefront.

Thanks,

Joanne Henig
