Woods was raised in a Californian family of photographers. His father had a portrait studio in Hollywood while his grandfather bought and released the movie, “Reefer Madness.” Woods excelled at Cal in his major, Photo Ethnography in Anthropology, or elements of street photography. He also immersed himself in Ansel Adams' black & white zone system and began to use formal and intentional lighting to create images. He moved back to Los Angeles in 1973 to work in the film industry and quickly rose to be Director of Photography for commercials (over 1000) and other projects. He built a darkroom and now continues to work in his first love, silver gelatin large format black & white still photography in the 'Art for Art's sake' style of Edward Weston. Woods hopes you enjoy the type of beauty he creates.
