I have been turning my visual observations into images since I first picked up that magical light-gathering device known as a camera. While some photographers travel to the ends of the earth for pictures, I enjoy looking for subjects close to home, exploring architecture, history and urban themes.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, my native turf is familiar yet mysterious to me and is one of my favorite subjects. Author Thomas Wolfe once wrote, “Only the dead know Brooklyn.” That may be true, but I have not given up trying.
To discover what’s special in everyday life… that is my quest. “It’s as though there’s a wonderful secret in a certain place and only I can capture it; only at this moment, and only me.” I wish I said that, but it was Walker Evans.
