Description: Little Diomede Island is located about 25 miles west from the mainland, in the middle of the Bering Strait. It is only 0.6 miles from the International Date Line and about 2.4 miles from the Russian island of Bering Strait between the United States Northwest territory and the Russian Far East territory. The Bering Sea is one of the most dangerous bodies of water in the world. There are three main reasons for this; shallow depth, volatile weather, and extremely cold sea temperatures, strong currents make for difficult navigation.
