Location: Amarillo, TX, USA
Description: In 1974, the art group Ant Farm, conceived the idea of creating an interactive art installation that would pay homage to the American automobile culture. Inspired by the aesthetics and symbolism of Route 66, they chose a location just west of Amarillo to establish the Cadillac Ranch. Route 66, also known as the Main Street of America, was essential for cross-country travel, connecting the Midwest to the West Coast. The road was a symbol of adventure and freedom. This initial placement directly on Route 66 allowed the installation to become a quintessential stop for road-trippers, attracting visitors from across the country who sought a taste of the iconic American road trip experience.
