Description: The Chapel of Bones was constructed by Franciscan monks in the later part of the 16th century. There was plenty to see in the Royal Church of St. Francis but the chapel intrigued me most. The room walls were entirely covered in skulls and other skeletal bones. I couldn’t help but wonder if permission was granted for the use of the bodily remains or if the church just decided to use them after the fact. This image was one of extreme contrast and required considerable editing to balance the interior detail and pull out any detail in the window well.
