Description: This is one of a series I call "Cymatiscapes," named after “Cymatics” which refers to the study of sound and vibration; specifically, to when the two are combined in a way that creates complex patterns in different media such as sand, water, or - what Swiss physician Hans Jenny (who coined the term) liked to use - corn starch in water. In this case, the patterns are produced by vibrating a small soy-sauce bowl filled with about 2 cm of isopropyl alcohol. A mini-portfolio of Cymatiscapes images was the winner of the 2026 Refocus B&W Awards in the "Abstracts" category: https://www.refocus-awards.com/entry/cymatiscapes
