Description: When I was composing this shot I was aware of three things. 1. The large window to the left provided visual interest and broke up the expanse of wall on the left side of the frame. 2. The placement of the stairs acts as a leading line, effectively guiding the viewer into the image. I lowered the tripod enough to deliberately show the small bit of alleyway at the top of the stairs providing a distant visual anchor point. I also made sure to retain detail here and not have it as a blown out specular highlight. 3. The final compositional element in this image is the mystery of the lit interior through the open window above the arch. I took two shots of this image. I had taken my first shot when someone opened the door on the left side which casted light on the right wall under the arch providing a bit of detail . . . this was that shot!
