Description: On the morning of 16 July 1969, NASA's mighty Saturn 5 launch vehicle rose on a fiery tail starting Humanity's first landing on the Moon. Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buz Aldrin, and Michael Collins were on their way into the history books. The stuttering roar, like a chain of dynamite sticks detonating one after the other was deafening even at a distance of 3.5 miles. This photograph was taken at about 2:00 am on the morning of the launch. The camera was a hand held Nikon F mounting a Nikkor 200mm f4 lens. The film was Kodak Tri-X Pan at an ASA rating of 400. This is a scan of my original black and white negative. Copyright 1969-2021 Travis Burgess, all rights reserved.
