Description: This is Fort Lovrijenac in the Old Town of Dubrovnik, the castle that doubled as the Red Keep in the series Game of Thrones. The area I was standing in was in heavy shadow and this was another case where I exposed for the highlight area through the arch and then opened the shadows in post processing. The heavy texture of the stone in the foreground minimized image noise once the shadows were opened up. A real benefit to shooting digital is being able to view the histogram in real time while you are shooting. You can place your highlights with precision, something that was always guesswork when shooting film. My viewfinder is more of a compositional tool and I consider the histogram to be primary in determining exposure. I never ever base my exposure on what I am seeing in the viewfinder or my viewing screen. It's all about the histogram.
