The Life Around The Sun Virtual Juried Exhibit is an open call for anyone with a passion for photography. Please submit your best sunrise and sunset captures for consideration by the juror.

We invite you to participate in this juried open call.

Stuart Gordon is a nature and travel photographer based in Bend, Oregon. His work has appeared in publications such as Outdoor Photographer, 1859 Magazine, and Landscape Photography Magazine, as well as in curated gallery exhibits in Portland and Bend, Oregon, and New York City. In addition, his work has been licensed by REI, real estate companies, and other non-profit environmental groups.

Gordon has also published two books and is working on his third. Gordon‘s first book, One World: A Photographer’s Global Journey, Vol. 1, is a collection of the best landscape images produced during that trip. One World: A Photographer’s Global  Vol. 2 focused on the wildlife encountered on the six continents they visited. Vol. 3, which is yet to be published, will showcase the people, architecture, and culture of the many cities, towns, and villages encountered along the way.

Gordon started pursuing nature and travel photography seriously in 2010. He has traveled extensively in the USA and abroad in pursuit of phenomenal landscapes, wildlife encounters, and intriguing faces.

In June 2014, Gordon and his family embarked on a year-long journey that took them to 23 countries, beginning in Iceland and ending in Turks & Caicos. The journey required 61 plane flights, 28 boats and 21 trains. Highlights included a hut-to-hut hike through the Swiss Alps and hiking from lodge-to-lodge in Abel Tasman National Park on New Zealand’s south island. During the journey they were challenged by severe weather and illness, but they always found inspiration in the prospect of seeing new things and experiencing new places and people each and every day. As you might expect, it was a journey that changed their lives and shaped his photography.

“My eye for detail and composition not only improved as a result of my travels, but also my ability to nail an exposure with one or two clicks of the shutter button,” Gordon said. “Often I was being hustled along by the need to keep pace with my family or a naturalist guide as we hiked through mountains, along beaches, lakes, rivers or through crowded city plazas, museums, galleries and streets. So I got very good at capturing the image I wanted quickly.”

Gordon says landscapes have always been his preference and first love in terms of subject matter. A deep admiration for nature and landscapes is what drew him to photography in the first place.

What a journey and this is why we feel nature and landscape photographer, Stuart Gordon, is the right juror for this glorious virtual exhibit. His attention to details in his work is outstanding. We’re thrilled to work with Gordon for the Life Around The Sun Virtual Exhibit.
